If you cannot meet the University's February 1, 2011 graduate application deadline, please contact the ARPE Department for more information. Each ARPE program has a Graduate Advisor who can provide further details.

This program is offered by the Department of Administration, Rehabilitation and Postsecondary Education, in collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs. The MA prepares students for effective administrative, practitioner, management and leadership positions in the higher education field of Student Affairs.

 

Program Overview

Welcome to the Masters of Arts in Education with a Concentration in Educational Leadership and a Specialization in Student Affairs in Postsecondary Education Program website!

We are delighted to learn of your interest in this program. This program is for:

  • Student Affairs/Student Service professionals who want to enhance their theoretical knowledge and skills to be student learning centered practitioners

  • Administrators desiring professional development to broaden their understanding of what it means to be a student learning centered institutional leader

  • Academic support specialists who desire to broaden their understanding of how and why some programs are effective in advancing student learning and development

This program prepares graduates to work in the field of Student Affairs/Student Services at two-year and four-year postsecondary institutions. Positions could include:

  • Campus diversity programs

  • Housing and residential education

  • Student activities

  • Leadership development programs

  • Student recruitment

  • New student orientation programs

  • Parent/family programs

  • Career services

  • Academic advising

  • Enrollment management, and

  • Other related positions

 

Program Mission

This program is designed to provide students with an overview of international postsecondary education in two-year and four-year institutions. Students are provided with a curriculum that intentionally prepares them to lead organizations in supporting students with their engagement in the institutional community and their holistic development. The program fits within the mission and vision of Administration, Rehabilitation, and Postsecondary Education (ARPE) Department and the Interwork Institute as the program seeks to develop exceptional leaders for diverse educational organizations.

  1. Student learning centeredness informed by the practical application of student learning, development, and engagement theories (Central College Tendency Uniqueness of Individuals and Scholarship)

  2. Social justice demonstrated through concepts of universal design, equity, and access embedded into the curriculum and connected to the student’s development through reflective practice (Central College Tendency Access to a Quality Public Education and Diversity)

  3. Outcomes-based assessment modeled through engagement in outcomes-based assessment, applied research, and institutional analysis and planning (Central College Tendency Community of Learners)
