The Master of Science degree programs in Regulatory Affairs and Biomedical Quality Systems may be either Plan A or Plan B. In general terms, they are the following:
Plan A: Plan A students are required to complete a thesis or final project to receive a master's degree. Plan A status is determined in consultation with the Graduate Adviser when the Program of Study is drafted. Plan A students are required to enroll in RA 799A.
Plan B: All students required to pass a comprehensive exam to be awarded a master's degree are considered to be on Plan B. Plan B students are required to take an additional elective in place of RA 799A.
The CBBD defines them further:
Plan A students must complete a thesis containing original thought, defend the thesis before a thesis committee, follow the university's protocol and deadlines, and publish the thesis for inclusion in the SDSU library. Note that degrees awarded under Plan A will indicate "degree with thesis", and the title of the thesis will be included on the student's transcript.
Plan B students, in lieu of a comprehensive exam, must also complete a thesis (with original thought and defense before CBBD instructors); however, Plan B does not require following the university's protocol, deadlines or publishing rules. Note that degrees awarded under Plan B will not indicate "degree with thesis", and the title of the thesis will not be included on the student's transcript.
Please discuss with the Director which plan suits you best. Once you've selected your plan, please review the following important deadlines.
