COURSE OVERVIEW

CATALOG DESCRIPTION
Prerequisites: ARP 611, 605 or appropriate experience.
The teaching process at the postsecondary education level addressing lesson planning, individualization of instruction, use of learning centers, interactive instruction, and other audiovisual methods and procedures of evaluation.

COURSE PURPOSE
This course is designed to prepare people for teaching in a postsecondary education setting or to help improve the instruction of practicing postsecondary education teachers by focusing on improving student learning. Students are introduced to traditional and innovative modes of instruction and evaluation of students. Emphasis is placed on increasing student involvement in learning through understanding student learning styles, using multicultural instructional techniques, cooperative learning, application of technology to instruction, and the analysis and evaluation of instructional practices. This course will consider the important questions of: What are effective instructional practices to increase student involvement in learning? What practices help enhance student learning? Why are some methods and materials effective for some students? What are fundamental principles of learning instructors can use to help increase student learning?
