FSM BA14 Department Goals &
Learning Outcomes

Overview

San Diego State University offers an Interdisciplinary Bachelors Degree program that allows for selection of relevant courses from three different departments. This is known as a Interdisciplinary Bachelors Degree in Three Departments (3D BA Degree). For the FSM Criminal Justice Cohort, courses have been selected from the following departments: (1) Criminal Justice, (2) Public Administration, and (3) Administration, Rehabilitation, and Post Secondary Education.

The 18 courses selected are specifically designed to meet the professional development needs of related criminal justice employees working in the FSM. Students who pursue the 3D BA Degree will be prepared to provide effective services for a diverse population. Students will pursue courses and learning experiences that are relevant and practical given the unique needs represented in their entity. Courses are designed to be practical and targeted to respond to critical issues facing the FSM.

The technology components of the program are supported through the Interwork Institute's (II) Center for Distance Learning (II-CDL), which is administered by the Department of Administration, Rehabilitation and Postsecondary Education (ARPE). The BA program will utilize a facilitated distance-learning model. This model provides face-to-face instruction for most courses and is supported through local facilitators who work with the SDSU lead instructor to ensure courses are relevant to student needs. Courses are delivered via the Internet and are also copied to external media to make content available to students when offline. Instructors interact with students via face-to-face instruction, online discussions, web activities, and audio and video lectures.

Note that in addition to the 3D courses, there will be additional courses required for graduation, for a total of 18 courses in the entire program. The additional courses are:

  1. California Government
  2. RWS 280 Academics Reading and Writing
