Personal/Work Info:
Greetings and Talofa. My name is Lipena Tuliloa-Asotau. I am a happily married mother of three lovely children. I am from a loving and caring family with precious parents who have always believed in me. I thank the "Almighty Lord" for such wonderful parents whom are very supportive of my career profession. I
have been in the teaching field for 15 years. It is a great
experience getting to know new students every year. It is my wish to make a difference in their lives so that they would become lifelong learners as well as good citizens.

As a classroom teacher, it is very interesting to work with students from all walks of life. Children absorb knowledge differently. This is because they have different learning abilities. Even though the work is very challenging, but on the other hand,it is always enjoyable. Children are very fond and unique in their own ways, and I have to accept them as who they are.

Reasons for Joining This Program:
It was an opportunity of a lifetime. Joining the program gives me the privilege to reevaluate my teaching techniques as well as gaining new teaching strategies so that I could give "the best of the best" to the students. I hope to get a higher degree, so that I can be able to instill comprehensive and meaningful lessons for children to be inspired.

One of My Special Talents Is:
Well to be honest, I don't have a special talent such as:
being a singer, musician, or an artist. But my God given talent is "motherly love" that enables me to nurture the children as well as having a lot of patience in coping with their academic and physical behavior.

4. Auva'a, Rose
rauvaasdsu.ci10@gmail.com

https://sites.google.com/site/roseauvaaseportfolio/

Personal/Work Info:
I’ve been in the teaching profession for more than 20 years. After 14 years of teaching in the elementary levels I tried to relocate my family to the mainland seeking for education opportunities. When things didn’t work out as I expected them to be I planned on returning back to American Samoa after a
year of residing in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. I was
reinstated into my teaching job and was assigned to teach special education math at Fagaitua High School. A year later I got shifted to regular education Fine Arts Department where I’m now teaching music. In addition to my teaching profession I am the father of three girls and two boys. Henry and Barbara are attending UNM in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Julia is attending ASCC and an army reservist. Pauline is a sophomore and Sebastian is at level five. The five precious are truly intelligent and gifted, and each one is a blessing.

Being a high school music instructor is truly a privilege
because it’s my hobby especially when you’re dealing with adolescence in their youth and most active stage of life. Here, you can have a great choir or band because they’ve experienced singing and making music in pre high school levels. Teaching music was something I always dreamt about. Unfortunately, it’s not that important in the elementary division. So having the opportunity to do what I do best is just awesome.

Reasons for Joining This Program:
I decided to join this MA program because I definitely needed it in this level of my profession. This is also a very rare opportunity that I will never find anywhere else. With this program I hope to view education from a totally different perspective that will enhance my teaching and leadership skills through perseverance, commitment, and dedication.

One of My Special Talents Is:
One of my special talents is music. I dedicated about thirty years directing and accompanying various church choirs around the island. I love to compose and arrange hymns for the choir. This is like my church contribution and truly my spiritual inspiration. In addition, I teach music at my Allegro Piano School during the summer, after schools, and the weekend. Its
something I’ve been doing in the last fifteen years. I also run my own Harbor Light Recording studio. I found out that music is a powerful language where I can express myself and touch other lives, and a great way to preach the good news.

Being a teacher is not an easy task. When I first started
out, I sometimes doubted myself if I was ready or not to do this. Anyhow, all the headaches paid off at the end of the day. The students that I have been teaching were a diverse section of learners and they all have unique ways of learning and that makes it more interesting for me. I enjoyed their eagerness for discover and their sense of awed when they finally learned something new, and that, by far is the
greatest reward for us teachers. No task was ever easy because we are constantly moving from one phase of learning capabilities to another.

Reasons for Joining This Program:
I joined this MA program because I will be able to obtain more knowledge and gain a considerate amount o knowledge as to how to improve myself as a teacher and also as a student in this program. https://sites.google.com/site/esetafsportfolio/

Personal/Work Info:
It was in the year of 1997 when it all began. After
completing my two years of college, I was still unsure of where my life was heading. However, after a period of soul searching, I finally realized what was to become of myself. This was the beginning of a new chapter in my life. Being a Special Education teacher in the field of blind/visual impairment is truly a blessing for me. The excitement that I felt at the time is beyond words. I was ambitious. Having no knowledge or any expertise in the field did not prevent me from teaching the young individual, who at the time was in 3rd grade. The minute I met my student, I felt it in my heart
that this was my calling, my purpose. As the school year began, I was faced with a lot of challenges. One of the challenges I encountered was teaching Braille. I was taught only the alphabet in Braille which didn’t seem to help much. On the other hand, the student was in 3rd grade and his Braille reading skills were not on level. Despite these challenges, I was able to overcome them. It was through experience and facing challenges which have helped shape and mold me into a strong woman with a big heart.

This experience has helped me to grow professionally. I received training in Braille as well as having the opportunity to attend conferences that will help me to become a better teacher. I find myself sharing the knowledge that I have gained from these workshop with others not only in the school but within the community as well.

Reasons for Joining This Program:
After receiving my Bachelors Degree in 2004, I took a long break. After that, I felt this
was a great opportunity. One of the reasons being is to expand my knowledge on leadership. Moreover, joining this program would help me support of my family financially. I hope to accomplish great tasks such as being a great role model to my
society. I hope that it will motivate other people to pursue their MA.

One of My Special Talents Is:
One of my special talent is creativity. I'm a very creative person. My sense of creativity is used not only inside the classroom but also within my home. I always try to find new and fun ways of doing things. I also use whatever means of media available to teach new concepts to students or to help students with their learning. This meaning, if materials or supplies were not available to teach a lesson, I would try to accommodate the students with whatever resources were available.

8. Gago,Talai
talaipgsdsu.ci10@gmail.com

https://sites.google.com/site/talaipunikgagoseportfolio/

Personal/Work Info:
My name is Tala’i Puniolo Kitiona Gago. By October this year I am going to be thirty-six years old and happily married with 5 wonderful kids. One of my sons is with our heavenly Father but he is still present within our hearts. I grew up in an isolated island where people get along very well and most family depends on farming and fishing. I was hired as a Teacher s Aide by the Department of Education on 2002. I started my career without a degree but a diploma and a help from my friends. I taught first and second grades for almost eight years now and I really enjoyed it. Throughout the years of my services, I decided to stern the anchor of my boat into a different direction. So I decided to pursue my education to get a higher degree not only for myself but for the students that I’m working with. In 2008 I received my Bachelor degree and it was a great reward for me. I also learn that it is never too old to learn if I put my heart and faith into it. It is with my understanding that my job is a two way learning process, a teacher learn from students as well as from students from teacher.

I worked with a small community with an enrollment of approximately a hundred students from K5 to grade eight. Last year I worked with eight first graders. Working with young students is different from working with older students. After working with different groups of students I preferred working with younger ones better. I really like the way the young ones think, they could express themselves in very detail way and their answers go beyond the questions. One of the things that I enjoy about my job is when those young ones that I taught come to me after four to five years and thanks me of what I taught. That is a reward that I like about teaching because I know not any other working field had. Not only that, but the best is that students are learning something from me as well.

Reasons for Joining This Program:
First and foremost, I decided to join this program for so
many reasons: I believe that this is my call. Next, I want to be knowledgeable of what I’m interesting in that is teaching. Also, I want to be a role model for my kids. I want my kids to see that education is very important than anything else. Not only that but I want my colleagues think higher of themselves rather than saying they are too old and they couldn’t make it. Most importantly, I really want to learn new strategies of teaching and become a strong, confident, and an honest leader that lead a group of people by making the right decision and inform the parents of my community that it is very important for them to participate in their children’s educational journey in order for them to success in the future.

One of My Special Talents Is:
I have special ways that help me become friendly with new people that I meet and I can socialize with them very easily and make friends with them. One of my special talents is fishing. I love fishing especially fishing for octopus. I could go at high or low tide looking for it and believe or not I would come home with at least five or more a day. I guess I was born with the instinct that could spot an octopus whenever I go fishing.

I enjoy teaching because not only it benefit myself in the field of teaching but also my four children. They are my greatest inspiration that kept me going in the profession. We share a lot of ideas and issues from a student's perspective and as a teacher's perspective in the classroom. I was in the military for four years, and with the experience I had from the army helped built myself in raising my children. Personal/Work Info:
I am the Music Director at Tafuna High School and Department Head for the Fine Arts Department. I have over 300 students in my music program and we perform two concerts every year, a Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert in May. The two concerts have always attracted more than a thousand people and they are televised on our local TV station.

I enjoy working with my students because of the fact that we get pleasure in making music together. Every Christmas Concert, I direct a 300-plus voice choral group and every time I do this, the feeling is just awe inspiring and I feel a sense of completion after each concert. 16. Pati, Pati T.
ppatisdsu.ci@gmail.com

https://sites.google.com/site/patiseportfolio/

Personal/Work Info:
My name is Pati T. Pati. I am the music director at Leone High School in American Samoa. I have been teaching for 14 years, all with LHS. I am also the head coach for the varsity football team, GO LIONS! I have been happily married for 12 years to Zenora Pati, and we have been blessed with 4 children: Zemirah (11 yrs), Zephaniah (8 yrs), Zondervan (5 yrs), and Zanna (8 months).

One special experience that I will always remember is going to the White House and meeting President George Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. I had the opportunity to represent American Samoa as the Territorial Teacher of The Year (2004), so all the teachers of the year from each state and territory met in Washington DC for a week filled with educational and fun activities. The highlight was meeting the President of the United States of America. Another special experience that I will always be proud of and has forever changed my life is the birth of all 4 of our children. It's special because I was there in the delivery room with Zenora all 4 times.

I LOVE TEACHING! I know that this is my calling. God has blessed me with the talent to teach music and coach football, and I enjoy doing it. I am so passionate about teaching that I want my students to feel the same way. I consider myself a molder, someone who can take something raw, untouched, and ugly and mold it into something finished, beautiful and full-of-life. When I get students at the beginning of the school year, many of them do not know how to sing or they are just simply in class to fill their elective requirements, but boy they are in for a rude awakening. Through this music class, I try to instill in them characteristics they can also use in everyday life, like discipline, team work, dedication, commitment, good attitude, etc. I try to be that walking example to my students. One thing interesting about teaching choir and coaching football, there is never a lack of boys in the choir, because I make sure I have football players sign up for choir or they will do extra running after practice.

Reasons for Joining This Program:
I joined because it's the right time for me. It's also a
great opportunity to be able to get a higher degree in an
awesome graduate program setting - cohort. I hope to gain more knowledge and a deeper understanding of being a leader. I hope to also learn more about myself as a person and educator.

One of My Special Talents Is:
Playing the piano.

Personal/Work Info:
My name is Salamasina Schuster, and I have been a teacher for eight years. I teach English to high school students of all grade levels. I enjoy working with students, recognizing that they are the future leaders of our growing island. I have been married for two years now to a man who is my angel, my rock, my everything: Carl Schuster, Jr. He encourages me and supports me and loves me so, and I know that he will be with me through the trials and triumphs this program will put forth in the next two years. I have a great husband, a great family, great colleagues, and great students! I am truly blessed and thank the Lord for everything and everyone that I have in my life.

Reasons for Joining This Program:
At the end of the two years, I hope to have grown both
mentally and psychologically. I joined the MAprogram
particularly because it is free, but it is first an opportunity that is worth taking advantage of. I would like to learn better strategies that can better improve and develop my students' learning abilities and capabilities so that they may be successful in whatever they decide to do in the future.

One of My Special Talents Is:
Whether or not it is a talent, I do not know. However, I
think that one of my special talents is being able to
concentrate and focus on the task(s) at hand. It is one of my pet peeves to know that I have something to do and I don't do it, or I don't finish doing it. When there is something due, for whatever reason, I have to get it done! Literally!

Personal/Work Info:
I am a teacher in elementary division. I have been teaching for eight years. I have three boys, a 7 months old, 4 years old and a 12 years old. I have experiences so much in life but most special experiences I have had was the lost of my mother. My mother was everything to me, but loosing her was the most difficult time of my life that I've ever experienced. Through this experience I've learned that I can stand up and do well in life. Ever since then my mother have inspired me to be the best I can be. Knowing that fact that she's gone, I needed to be on my own and make wise decisions in my life. I am here now because of her and because she made me believe that nothing is impossible if I have God in my life. Now, that I'm on my own raising my own family, I can never forget her and how much value she've taught me about life.

I am a classroom teacher and a facilitator to the students the enters my classroom. My teaching career is interesting and enjoyable because it's packed with so much exciting activities that can help students learn. I look forward everyday to go to school. I am never bored because the students keeps me on my toes. I have to create a very exciting learning environment where students of all learning abilities will learn and grow, making sure that no child is left behind. Each lesson that's created comes with an exiting activity. And if I am positive the students will respond positively. Teaching will never bored me, everyday there's always something new. Not only that I teach the students but at the same time I learn great lessons from them.

Reasons for Joining This Program:
I decided to join this MA program because I needed to pursue a higher degree in education. It will also benefit my family financially. I hope to accomplish alot. I desire to become a better educator that can help my students become excellent academically. I hope to earn this degree and utilize it in my career and community to become a more effective leader.

One of My Special Talents Is:
The desire I have to reach out and help my needy students. I make sure that I spent equal time with the strong learners as well and the slow learners with special needs.

Personal/Work Info:
I have been a teacher for 11 years. Within the 11 years in teaching, I have been a science teacher for the last six years. I taught science for 96 year eight students this past school year and also I had the opportunity to lead some group of teachers this past school year (2009 - 2010). I was assigned by the school administration to be the mentor for level 8 teachers, science chairperson for the school, representative for the science committee for the Midwest District and representing level 8 teachers in the school social committee.

I grew up in a family of four, my parents, one and only
brother and myself. Now my family of four has increased to nine, my brother and his little heaven of five, my parents and of course my for now and eternity soul mate. I lived my whole childhood life here on the rock - American Samoa and then had the experience living in Papua New Guinea with my family for three years.

One of my special experience would be living the
boarding-school life. For my 11th and 12th grades, I had to be away from my comfort zones (parents and home on the rock) for two years. In boarding school, I have learned three main things that had an impact in my life. 1. Being independent - I had no parents or family to rely on. So I had to survive adjusting to a new environment and culture that the boarding school offers. 2. Being appreciative - Choosing what you wanted to eat or doing whatever you wanted to do was not an option. I had to eat what the school offered and was given a schedule to follow. So I learned to appreciate and accept different experiences life offers. 3. Discipline - In order for me to do well in school, I had to organize my time and priorities in a new environment.

Reasons for Joining This Program:
I prayed for an opportunity so I could expand or obtain more knowledge in my profession to help me be a better 'teacher'. Yes, I wanted to be in a Master's program geared to leadership, curriculum and instruction. Finally my prayers were answered this summer.

One of My Special Talents Is:
Organizing and implementing different projects at both school and church. These projects may include after-school tutoring, field day for health awareness, community outreach, Pathfinder (Children) programs and others.

https://sites.google.com/site/ffteofiloeportfolio/

Personal/Work Info:
I've served in the military for 23 years in the US Army
Reserve and had one tour in Iraq. I started teaching from 1985 to 1988 in Social Studies before moving to the mainland. Upon returning in 2002, I ended up teaching Math due to shortage of teacher and love teaching it at Tafuna High School. I'm a single parent with 5 kids and taking care of them and my mother. Since I'm staying next to the ocean, I love to go fishing when ever I got the time to do it.

Teaching Math in the High School level is always interesting and challenging. Every year I got new faces in the classroom and new behavior they brought with them. I had to come up with different ways to cope with them. The kids (students) are fun to work with and of course there are few of them that gives up hard time but I always managed to find a positive solution to the problem.

Reasons for Joining This Program:
I always wanted to get a higher degree so I can see myself providing more help that other may need. My goals are not only for personal development but with the passion do more in the classroom environment for our kids. I would like to make a difference in someone's life not only in school setting but also to our communities.

One of My Special Talents Is:
Helping others so that they can see there is a light at the
end of the tunnel. Be successful in life.

Personal/Work Info:
I teach two sections of General Science, two sections of Physical Science, which are freshmen science courses and one section of Physics, which is a junior/senior science course.

I am married to a retired teacher/coach/athlete. I have three children, one boy and two girls. My youngest daughter will be graduating high school this coming school year and the other two live in Hawaii continuing their education.

I started my career as a high school science teacher, became a science specialist and on to being an elementary administrator. I got transferred to the American Samoa Department of Education's (ASDOE)newly created leadership team for two years, and then the new director appointed me to head the health division in the Office of Curriculum, Instructions and Accountability (OCIA). I resigned from the post after nine months and re-entered the system as a high school science teacher five years ago.

Reasons for Joining This Program:
I joined this program because I need to prove to myself that I can earn a graduate degree. The past five years back in the classroom has been such an experience that I believe I have learned so much more in the past five years than in all my years spent outside of the classroom setting. I also have to prove to my children and students that you can achieve at any age because learning is an ongoing process for as long as one chooses to have a desire.

One of My Special Talents Is:
One of my special talents is cooking. I do a lot of baking from scratch and I'm pretty good at improvising when certain ingredients are not available.
