Ivan Golakoff has been Education Programs Supervisor for the San Diego County Water Authority since 1990.  His responsibilities include the development and implementation of a comprehensive education program, serving almost 700 schools in San Diego County, California.  His programs reach all grade levels from elementary to college level.

He has developed a variety of unique and creative programs that have won numerous awards.  His programs have recently won the Clair A. Hill Award from tje Association of California Water Agencies, the Golden Bell Award from the California School Boards Association, and the Partnerships in Education Award from the San Diego Unified School District.

Mr. Golakoff has also partnered with many local agencies to create such popular programs as the Splash Science Mobile Lab, run by the San Diego County Office of Education, developed an interactive water-related display at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, and built a Xeriscape garden for teaching training purposes at a local elementary school.

Mr. Golakoff also serves on many local and state education committees.  He is a Board Member of the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair and a Board Member for the San Diego Regional Environmental Education Community Coordinator.  He also serves on the education committee for the California State Department of Water Resources and the Association of California Water Agencies.  Mr. Golakoff was also one of twelve people selected by the State Superintendent of Education to serve on a Special Advisory Committee for Environmental Education.

Prior to joining the San Diego County Water Authority in 1990, Mr. Golakoff was for eight years Assistant Director of the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, CA, and for 10 years Education Coordinator for the San Diego Zoo.

Mr. Golakoff has taught at all grade levels from elementary through the college level, including a variety of University of California, San Diego Extension courses.  He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education and Curriculum Development, as well as Elementary, Secondary, Community College, and Administrative credentials.
