NOTE: We are no longer accepting applicants for the Community College Teaching Certificate at this time.

Admission Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university, with at least a 2.85 in the last 60 units is required for acceptance into the program.  It should be noted, however, that requirements to teach in the California Community Colleges are set by the California Community College Chancellor’s Office and vary by discipline.

 

According to the Chancellor’s office:

For academic disciplines, the minimum qualifications now are a masters’ degree in the discipline of the assignment; or a bachelor’s degree in the discipline of the assignment and a master’s degree in a reasonably related discipline. A statewide “disciplines list” defines the degrees that are considered to be reasonably related. Assignments in the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and fine arts generally fall into this category, as do a number of technical disciplines, such as engineering, home economics, nursing, dietetics, accounting, and business management.

Admission Procedures

Students must complete an application for admission to both the university and the certificate program.  Early application to the program is encouraged.  Submit the university application on line at www.csumentor.edu

Students currently attending SDSU, in other graduate programs, do not have to reapply to the school.  You will, however, need to complete the program application and a Request for Permission to enter and Advanced Certificate Program Form from the Graduate Division.
