Welcome to the SDSU / Nangarhar Partnership Programs

Civil Engineering Program

Given the success of the English Language Program partnership, Nangarhar University (NU) and San Diego State University (SDSU) have extended their partnership efforts to include the discipline of Engineering. The 30 month project, supported by the Ministry of Higher Education through grant funds from the World Bank, commenced on January 1, 2008 and focuses on provision of technical assistance to support NU in developing a new Civil Engineering program.

The project focuses on several key areas, including the opportunity for NU engineering students to specialize in one of four concentrations: construction, environmental, structural and water resources. Additionally, Master’s level and short- term intensive training is offered for NU Engineering faculty and administrators to fortify leadership for the ongoing, successful implementation of the program at Nangarhar University. The expanded partnership serves as an example throughout Afghanistan and the US that sustainable peace and understanding can result from increased interaction and collaboration.
