Welcome to the SDSU / Nangarhar Partnership Programs

Programs

International Learning Center (ILC)

The International Learning Center (ILC) serves as the site to coordinate project activities between Nangarhar University and The Interwork Institute that focus on information technology and English language development.  It is the focal point for coordinating the delivery of international programs such as a visiting professor lecture series.  The ILC is also equipped with a guesthouse for visiting professors.  As capacity is built in information technology and English language acquisition, other areas of critical need can be addressed through the Center.

English Language Program

Through a partnership between Nangarhar University and The Interwork Institute, the purpose of this project, supported by the Ministry of Higher Education in Afghanistan through grant funds from the World Bank, is to implement an initial three-year technical assistance, capacity building and training program, to establish information technology resources and capabilities and a comprehensive English language program that will enable NU to prepare its students to earn a BA degree in English.

Engineering Program

Given the success of the English Language Program partnership, Nangarhar University (NU) and San Diego State University (SDSU) have extended their partnership efforts to include the discipline of Engineering. The 30 month project, supported by the Ministry of Higher Education through grant funds from the World Bank, commenced on January 1, 2008 and focuses on provision of technical assistance to support NU in developing a new Civil Engineering program.
