Instructions for Final Portfolio Presentation

If you can not make your assigned time, please coordinate an exchange of time with one of your peers.  If none of these times work for you, please get with me immediately. Two to three other faculty members will be sitting in on each one of your reviews.  You will get the list of who is evaluating you after March 21, 2007.

  • By April 9th have a full copy of your portfolio to each member of your evaluation team. You can bring updated materials to your review and in some cases, as in the learning artifacts from your final class, you may only have drafts submitted.  The evaluators will understand, just make sure your notate drafts as drafts.

Each room will have an LCD projector and screen available for your use.  If you need anything else, please let Linda know by April 9th

You are not expected to bring refreshments for the reviewers.  If you choose to do so, please do not go overboard.  We are not one of those programs that expects full meals for the faculty reviewers and as long as I am here, we will not become one.

The defense of your learning portfolios is the culminating evidence of the your educational experience here at SDSU.  It is an opportunity for you to present the synthesis and application of your learning in accordance with your learning goals.

The time slots are an hour long with 15 minute breaks for the reviewers in between (this time also allows for you, the students, to break down and set up should you be using multi-media for your presentation).

  • The oral exam time begins with you presenting the summary of your learning in a brief, succinct 20 minute overview.
  • The faculty reviewers will have an opportunity to question you for 20-30 minutes more.  The questions will most likely ask for clarification of the synthesis of your learning to the application of your present and future goals.
  • On conclusion of this question and answer period, you will be asked to leave the room and the faculty will discuss whether you are ready to graduate. The discussion will take nor more than 5-10 minutes.
  • At the end of the discussion, you will be invited back into the room to hear the faculty’s decision.  If more work is needed for you to graduate, then you will learn of it at this time.

Please have your portfolio to Dr. Marilee Bresciani by April 5th.  She will review the portfolio over the weekend and let you know what she think needs to be refined by your oral exam period.  You will need to provide updated materials to your faculty evaluator.

The criteria that the faculty will use to evaluate your portfolio is below.  Note that there is no criteria for evaluating the refreshments you choose to bring or not to bring.  So, keep that in mind as you plan.

You may invite others to come listen to your portfolio presentation.  Just keep in mind the size of the room.  Please also let them know that they will be asked to leave the room when you leave the room.

If you have any questions, please contact me at mbrescia@mail.sdsu.edu.  We all look forward to hearing what you learned and how you plan to apply it to your present and your future.
