Cynthia Davalos’ higher education career began in 1998 at the University of San Diego advising students in the Dean’s Office in the College of Arts and Sciences. After completing her Master’s degree Cynthia began working for the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2005 she took her experiences working in outreach, admissions, student advising, and alumni relations to UC San Diego where she currently serves as the Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor-Student Affairs, a senior leadership position in Student Affairs. In her role Cynthia oversees campus and community relations, diversity initiatives, as well as special projects and initiatives that impact student success and wellbeing. She also collaborates regularly with senior colleagues in the university to carry out the campus’ mission of a student-centered, research-focused, service-oriented public university.

Cynthia is currently a fellow with American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE), New Leadership Academy in partnership with the National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID) at the University of Michigan. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of San Diego, School of Leadership and Education Sciences. Her dissertation focused on the institutionalization of diversity and the role of the chief diversity officer in higher education.
