The SDSU PRICE SCHOLARS program is to increase the number of enrollees and improve the SDSU retention and graduation rates for Hoover and Crawford High School graduates. We must begin college planning and mentoring prior to application and enrollment to SDSU. The SDSU Price Scholars program will support Scholars during their entire undergraduate experience at SDSU. The support and follow-through will address financial, academic, social, and personal needs of the students. The interventions insure the students begin the University experience on a competitive basis with all students- regardless of socio-economic factors and/or under-representation.

Hoover High School graduates will be awarded the Stephen Effron Scholarships and Crawford High School graduates will be awarded the Joe and Dorothy Goldberg Scholarships. The SDSU Price Scholars Program is targeted to insure that selected students from Hoover and Crawford High Schools complete high school and graduate from SDSU within five years of their enrollment at the University. It is common for SDSU students to take five to six years to complete an undergraduate degree. Typical students take 12 units a coursework each semester, and also work at least part-time.

Goal and Objectives of the Price Scholarship Program

The Goal of the SDSU Price Scholarship Program for Stephen Effron and Joe and Dorothy Goldberg Scholars is to:

  • Increase academic and University support services given to Crawford and Hoover students.

  • High School graduates, which will enable them to complete their undergraduate Degree at SDSU within five years of enrollment as freshmen.

To achieve this goal, the SDSU Scholars Program has three objectives:

  1. Scholars will be supported each year during their academic program at SDSU.

  2. The SDSU scholars will demonstrate retention rates at least 17% higher than current Hoover and Crawford students at SDSU, and at least 50% will graduate from SDSU within five years of initial enrollment.

  3. SDSU Scholars will meet academic and service requirements as specified in each student's individualized graduation plan.
