Dr. Sullivan graduated from the University of Oregon with a doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology. His dissertation research work focused on Psychological and Sociological correlates of drug abuse concerning U.S. combat troops in Vietnam. While working on his degree, he served as a clinical treatment psychologist at the Lane County Mental Health Clinic in Eugene, Oregon, and was a member of a rural mental health out-reach team.

Dr Sullivan also holds a Master's of Science degree in Counseling, and a California teaching credential. Dr Sullivan taught graduate school and was a practicum supervisor for the Department of Counselor Education, San Diego State University. He also taught at the undergraduate level and was an adjunct Professor in research design at Union Graduate School in San Francisco.

Dr. Sullivan has published articles ranging from personnel training and forecasting, to sexual aversion, to advocacy impact for local governments. He has presented at professional rehabilitation and clinical conferences on topics including education and staff training needs assessment, rehabilitation training, pain management, occupational stress, self-regulation through biofeedback, and sexual dysfunction.

During the last twenty years he has been a consultant to the Ford Neurological and Headache Clinic in San Diego. He has provided rehabilitation psychological treatment (Biofeedback) to mild and moderate closed-head-injured patients and to patients suffering pain from neuro-muscular injuries. Recently Dr. Sullivan has developed educational training videotapes focusing on rehabilitation interviews with individuals who suffer from mental disabilities, traumatic brain injury, learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, and persons who are blind.

Dr. Sullivan’s expertise is in the following clinical and educational areas: traumatic brain injury, pain management utilizing biofeedback, ethics in human service, clinical interviewing and counseling, personality theories, psychological disabilities, and organizational management and leadership.
