Bobbie Atkins

Bobbie J. Atkins Ph. D.


Dr. Atkins has over 20 years of experience in teaching, research, publications, and service in rehabilitation counseling. She has distinguished herself as a leader nationally and internationally with expertise in diversity, alcohol, and drug prevention, AIDS education, and supervision. In 1999, the National Association for Multicultural Rehabilitation Concerns (NAMRC) renamed its research award the Bobbie J. Atkins Rehabilitation Research Award. In her role as National Project Coordinator for the Rehabilitation Cultural Diversity Initiative (RCDI), she was able to more directly impact diversity developments for rehabilitation. She is also past president of the National Council on Rehabilitation Educators (NCRE).

Dr. Atkins is a professor at San Diego State University in the Masters Program in Rehabilitation Counseling.

She is currently Project Director of Project Online, an RSA funded capacity building project, where she is directly impacting people of color through training and technical assistance on grant writing and submission. In addition, she is the Project Director for a Higher Education grant focused on Universal Teaching and Learning.
