Admission Procedure: On-Campus Programs

Admission Procedure: On-Campus Programs

Students must complete and submit two applications for graduate admission: 1) a Cal State Apply  application and 2) the College of Education's online application. All applicants must also take the GRE and submit all required supplemental materials by the dates listed below to be considered for admission. We are not able to consider applicants who do not meet these deadlines.

NOTE: For the Fall 2020 semester, we are only admitting students to the on-campus program. Distance program admissions will not occur until the Fall 2021 semester.

Step 1: Applying to the ARPE Department

Step 2: Applying to the University's Graduate Division

  • Submit the Cal State Apply application by March 2, 2020 and submit all materials by April 1, 2020
  • Select "Masters Degree or Higher" and then look for "Rehabilitation Counseling" under "San Diego Graduate"
  • Submit the required application fee with the Cal State Apply Application.
  • Have the following materials mailed directly to Graduate Admissions

Graduate Admissions Address:

Graduate Admissions
5500 Campanile Drive
San Diego, CA 92182-7416

  • Official transcript(s) in sealed envelopes by April 1, 2020.
  • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test scores (There is no minimum GRE score needed to enter the program, however, you must have a GRE score. The GRE school code for our program is 4682). GRE scores need be received by April 1, 2020
  • TOEFL Test Scores (for International Students only)

Step 3: Campus Interviews

  • All applications will be initially reviewed by Rehabilitation Counseling Program faculty. Following this review, a select group of students will be invited to interview for admission to the program. Applicants will be interviewed by a Rehabilitation Counseling Program faculty member. Interviews are held once an applicant's materials have been submitted (i.e., both to Cal State Apply and to the Rehabilitation Counselor Program Application for Admission). Interviews typically occur February through May, but are sometimes conducted earlier once all materials have been submitted and the applicant is determined to be eligible for admission consideration.

Step 4: Consideration for Stipend Funding

  • Stipend funding from the Rehabilitation Services Administration may be available to qualified applicants. Please contact us for further information.
