This interdisciplinary degree has been specifically designed with coursework that will provide educators in the Republic of Palau with a strong foundation in research-based education philosophy and instructional methods. The degree consists of 120 semester units. Within those units, students must complete 50 units at a four-year college/university with the remainder being community college units. While the degree is specifically designed for the Republic of Palau, the program can be adatped to fit other needs as identified by the partnering entity.
American Samoa Certificate in School Administration
San Diego State University’s Department of Administration Rehabilitation and Postsecondary Education (ARPE) and Department of Educational Leadership designed a Certificate of Completion to be offered through the Global Campus to specifically meet the needs of current school principals in American Samoa. This program offers seven courses in Educational Leadership designed specifically to support and improve the skills of practicing school administrators in meeting the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL).
Students who pursue the Certificate are prepared for effective administrative and leadership positions through courses and learning experiences that are relevant and practical given the unique educational needs represented in American Samoa. The American Samoa Department of Education (ASDOE) has indicated the need for a certificate program for one designated cohort of principals who, after completing the six courses and one field experience course, will be prepared to pass a performance assessment. The assessment protocol will be modeled after the one used at SDSU in preparation for the California School Administrator credential.
